Dos Doñas Alpaca Farm is located on 30 acres in St. Louis, Missouri. It was created by Jo Ann and Kristina Flegel, a mother-daughter partnership which constitutes the two women who are Dos Doñas. We first learned about Alpacas nine years ago when we were searching for stress- free alternatives to the paths our careers had taken us. After much research, we decided to become full time breeders and have found the Alpaca Lifestyle to be more satisfying than we had imagined.
Initially, we focused on breeding show quality Suri Alpacas of Peruvian descent. We placed an emphasis on conformational excellence, fiber quality and color diversity. Four years ago, we broadened our scope to include a small but elite group of show quality huacayas. All Alpacas are registered with the ARI, (Alpaca Registry International) and come with full reproductive guarantees.
When we first began almost 9 years ago, we took care of every detail ourselves- from scooping poop to fencing to attending at births. We believe our alpacas benefited from this personal attention. As we grew, we maintained our philosophy that intensive hands-on attention to daily care is essential to the health and well being of our herd.
In addition to our own careful husbandry, we are fortunate to work with many talented people. The farm is able to offer our boarders access to two top veterinarians-Dr. Doug Pernikoff, a former Zoo vet who is recognized for his excellence both locally and internationally, and Dr. Norm Evans, who is recognized as one of the top camelid vets in the country. Dr. Pernikoff is located here in St. Louis and handles all medical and emergency issues that may arise. Dr. Norman Evans has helped us fine tune our nutrition program and handles all reproductive issues including pregnancy verification via ultrasound. We also employ a full time Vet Tech whose keen eye and dedication has proved invaluable. We believe our alpacas benefit from this high level of care and we would enjoy helping you in your Alpaca education.
We would like to extend an invitation to anyone interested in investing in Alpacas, purchasing their fiber, or to anyone who is simply interested in learning more about these rare and valuable creatures. Please call to schedule your appointment. When you call we are available for questions and you will speak to one of us directly.
